Best Mattress for Hot Sleepers (2026 Buyer's Guide)

If you regularly wake up hot or sweaty, the right mattress can make a noticeable difference. While no mattress can completely eliminate night sweats caused by medical conditions or hormones, some sleep much cooler than others. After years of selling and testing mattresses on the sales floor, here are the biggest differences I've observed regarding cooling mattresses and claims, which in many cases are vastly oversold in my professional opinion. Most mattresses are designed to cool you off for 20-30 minutes so you can fall asleep, and then your body temperature will naturally lower.
Quick Take
Best overall cooling: Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-LuxeBreeze
Best value: Latex mattresses
Best hybrid value: Helix hybrids
Most likely to retain heat: Traditional all-memory-foam mattresses
Professor Goodsleep's Recommendation
The coolest mattress I've personally tested is the Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-LuxeBreeze. Tempur-Pedic advertises that it can keep sleepers up to 10°F cooler throughout the night. During my own showroom testing, I spent over 30 minutes lying on the mattress. Normally, after that amount of time on memory foam, my back begins to feel noticeably warm. On the LuxeBreeze, I could still feel the cooling effect. No other mattress I've personally evaluated maintained that cooling sensation as well.
The Trade-Offs
The LuxeBreeze isn't perfect. A king-size model is typically well over $6,000, making it one of the most expensive mainstream mattresses available. It also doesn't have the same deep, body-hugging feel as the Adapt collection. In my experience, the Breeze line feels noticeably firmer because its cooling-focused construction sacrifices some of that classic Tempur-Pedic conforming sensation.
You Don't Have to Spend $6,000 to Sleep Cooler
Many shoppers don't need the absolute coolest mattress on the market. Over the years, I've received very few complaints about Helix hybrid mattresses sleeping hot. Natural latex mattresses also perform extremely well because they're naturally breathable and don't hug the body as deeply as traditional memory foam. Neither makes the same aggressive cooling claims as the LuxeBreeze, but both are excellent choices for people who simply want to sleep comfortably without overheating.
Other mattresses that make a claim to sleep 5 degrees cooler throughout the night also offer noticeable cooling technology that you will be able to feel. That seems to be near the cut-off as to where you will actually feel the cooling effect for an extended period of time.
From the Sales Floor
One thing I've learned is that the 'best cooling mattress' isn't automatically the best mattress for everyone. If someone wakes up drenched in sweat every night, the LuxeBreeze may justify its premium price. If they only sleep a little warm, I usually recommend saving the money and looking at a quality latex mattress or a Helix hybrid. Most people are perfectly happy with those options while spending thousands less.
Other Things That Affect Temperature
Even the coolest mattress can't overcome heat-trapping bedding. Waterproof mattress protectors, heavy comforters, flannel sheets, and a warm bedroom can all reduce the benefits of a cooling mattress. Think of your sleep system as a whole rather than focusing only on the mattress.
Final Thoughts
If your budget allows and maximum cooling is your highest priority, the Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-LuxeBreeze is the most impressive cooling mattress I've personally tested. If you're looking for better value, latex mattresses and Helix hybrids offer excellent temperature regulation without the premium price tag.
Don't Worry, Sleep Happy.
