Choosing the Right Sheets

One of the most common questions I hear from customers is: 'What sheets should I buy?' Most people spend a lot of time choosing a mattress but very little time thinking about the sheets they sleep on every night.

Popular Sheet Materials

  • Cotton Sheets: Cotton sheets remain the most popular option. Egyptian and Pima cotton use longer fibers, creating smoother, stronger yarns that typically feel softer, pill less, and last longer.

  • Bamboo Sheets: Bamboo sheets are known for their soft, silky feel and excellent moisture-wicking properties.

  • Tencel Sheets: Tencel sheets are among the coolest and most breathable options available, making them popular among hot sleepers.

  • Microfiber Sheets: Microfiber sheets are much more affordable and soft but generally sleep warmer than cotton, bamboo, or Tencel.

Fitted Sheets and Adjustable Bases

Many customers with adjustable bases discover that fitted sheets can pop off the corners as the base moves. To combat this, consider using deep-pocket sheets, strong elastic, and corner straps to help keep sheets securely in place.

Understanding Thread Count

Thread count is often misunderstood. The quality of the fibers and the weave frequently matter more than the thread count itself. Percale weaves feel crisp and cool, while sateen weaves feel smoother and silkier.

In many cases, a high-quality 300–500 thread count sheet made from long-staple cotton will outperform a lower-quality sheet claiming 1,000 thread count.

Recommendations

For hot sleepers, Tencel and bamboo are often the best choices, they do have that slippery silky feel that not everyone prefers though. For durability and a traditional feel, quality cotton (especially Egyptian Cotton) remains an excellent option.
