The Tempur-Pedic ProAdapt Medium Hybrid is what I consider the benchmark for a true-medium mattress. I use it as my reference point when judging the firmness of other mattresses. What makes it exceptional is the combination of pressure relief and support. When you first lie down, the TEMPUR material gradually conforms around your body, and over the next minute or so you settle into it and it seems to become increasingly comfortable. That contouring provides exceptional pressure relief without giving up the underlying support I want from a medium mattress. It is also outstanding at motion isolation, so very little of a partner's movement makes its way over to your side of the bed. Tempur-Pedic costs more than many competitors, but I believe much of that premium is justified by the quality of the materials, durability, distinctive TEMPUR feel, and the company's long track record. For me, the ProAdapt Medium Hybrid is the north star for a true medium—the mattress I compare other medium mattresses against.
